La semana pasada despedíamos a Micaela Abdala como artista en residencia. Mica pasó todo el mes de junio con nosotros. Llegada desde Buenos Aires, Argentina, buscaba un espacio en el que poder ordenar, profundizar y dar forma al material que formará parte de su próximo libro, y escogió Castelo Studio para encontrar foco y concentración.
Fue un placer compartir tiempo con Mica, charlar sobre escritura, compartir gustos literarios y conversar bajo el limonero con largas sobremesas. Una residencia artística es un tiempo para poder enfrentar un proyecto con el foco necesario, pero lo cierto es que a menudo termina siendo también encuentros inesperados, amistades duraderas, profundos intercambios culturales y en este caso también muchas risas.

Last week we bid farewell to Micaela Abdala as our artist-in-residence. Mica spent the entire month of June with us. Having arrived from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she was looking for a space where she could organize, explore in depth, and shape the material that will be part of her next book, and she chose Castelo Studio to find focus and concentration.
It was a pleasure to spend time with Mica, chat about writing, share literary tastes, and have long after-dinner conversations under the lemon tree. An artist residency is a time to tackle a project with the necessary focus, but the truth is that it often ends up involving unexpected encounters, lasting friendships, deep cultural exchanges, and, in this case, lots of laughter as well.
La formación y práctica de Micaela Abdala se construyen en el cruce entre la escritura, lo audiovisual y lo social. Se formó en Argentina, licenciada en derecho por la Universidad de Buenos Aires, con especialización en derecho de familia y discapacidad, lugar desde el que trabajó durante varios años con casos reales, documentación sensible y problemáticas vinculadas al acceso de derechos. Esa experiencia marcó de manera profunda su mirada narrativa y ética, y continúa siendo un eje central en los proyectos que desarrolla. Paralelamente, se formó en escritura creativa y crítica de cine en la UBA, y en producción audiovisual. Su caminó derivó hace cuatro años hacia la escritura de manera profesional con una brillante trayectoria. Escribe guiones para videoclips y proyectos audiovisuales incluyendo clientes como Universal Music y publica ficciones y textos narrativos en medios como Página 12, Time Out y Escritura Feminista, así como en espacios editoriales colectivos.
El proyecto que aborda durante su residencia, lo que será su próximo libro, surge de la necesidad de pensar el cuerpo como un archivo sensible donde se inscriben la memoria, los vínculos y la experiencia del tiempo. El texto propone una reflexión íntima sobre la relación con el propio cuerpo, entendida no solo como vivencia individual, sino como un espacio atravesado por la historia familiar, el miedo, el duelo y las marcas que dejan los afectos.

Micaela Abdala’s education and professional practice are rooted at the intersection of writing, audiovisual media, and social issues. She was educated in Argentina, earning a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires with a specialization in family law and disability law, a field in which she worked for several years on real-life cases, sensitive documentation, and issues related to access to rights. That experience profoundly shaped her narrative and ethical perspective and remains a central focus in the projects she develops. At the same time, she studied creative writing and film criticism at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), as well as audiovisual production. Four years ago, her career took a turn toward professional writing, where she has enjoyed a brilliant track record. She writes scripts for music videos and audiovisual projects for clients such as Universal Music and publishes fiction and narrative pieces in media outlets such as Página 12, Time Out, and Escritura Feminista, as well as in collective publishing platforms.
The project she has been working on during her residency, which will become her next book, stems from the need to conceive of the body as a sensitive archive in which memory, connections, and the experience of time are inscribed. The text offers an intimate reflection on the relationship with one’s own body, understood not only as an individual experience but also as a space shaped by family history, fear, grief, and the marks left by emotional bonds.
